Portland Museam of Art
It's hard to believe that in this day and age something is for free. Yes, the Portland Museum of Art is open on Friday nights from 5 to 9 pm and is free for those who want to enjoy a wonderful evening in Portland. The museum's feature from November 2, 2006 through January 7, 2007 is called 'American ABC', Childhood in the 19th Century America. American ABC explores the subject of childhood and it's relationship to the American quest for national identity during the 19th century. They are presenting works by Winslow, Homer, Thomas Eakins, Eastman Johnson and other major American artists. After your visit to the museum one might want to have a leisurely dinner and enjoy shopping in the Old Port section of the city with it's cobblestone streets.
